Chapter 4 of 21 · Theme: Data and Interoperability

The Jedi Archive

The electronic health record as the institution's living memory: data as uranium, not oil.

Inspired by the Jedi Archives of Star Wars, the chapter treats the electronic health record as the living, institutional memory of a health system: not a mere bureaucratic repository, but the foundation on which any clinical AI will (or will not) work well. The authors propose a shift in language: health data should be treated as uranium, not oil. It is a resource of enormous value, but one that demands far stricter handling, protection and governance than the "new oil" metaphor usually suggests.
